Things are getting busy around here!

With summer just around the corner things in our house start to get really busy instead of slowing down. Jonathan goes on many more trips with the youth and for his own educational benefit in the summer. There is more time to spend with members of the congregation that we don’t normally get to see due to their busy schedules.

I will be out of school soon (19 more days, but don’t worry I’m not really counting) which means that life just gets a little more hectic for me. I started my Master’s Degree in reading on May 7 so this summer will be spent with a lot of time in the books. I will spend a large amount of time planning for the next school year. It really is nice to know in May, what you will be doing in September!

We hope to be able to spend time with dear friends that we miss greatly. We have plenty of space for everyone to sleep and would LOVE to have visitors! I hope that this spring has brought a renewed sense of life into your spirit and that you are ready to tackle summer with open arms!

Until next time….

Our newest addition…

… it isn’t a baby per-say. We did adopt a new four legged friend. I imagine having her in our lives is much like having a baby though. We adopted her on January 31 from the Portsmouth Humane Society. When we brought her home she was only 8/9 weeks old. We aren’t entirely sure on her age as she was a rescue. The first week was a little rough. She was so used to sleeping with her litter mates that being in a kennel by herself was a HUGE transition. We did make sure that she and Scotty (our older dog) were in the same room together in their kennels. She has slowly made progress with the kennel training. We don’t know much about her. We do know that mom is a Cairn Terrier, she was onsite, and we have no idea what her father is. The best guess we (or the vet) can make at this point is that maybe we was a Lhaso Apso. She is now 13 weeks and weighs a whopping 9 pounds! Scotty and Winnie, that is her name, are best friends! They hate being separated. When they are out of their kennels they are constantly playing. When they do take a break to nap they have to be on the same piece of furniture and preferably touching.

Now for the best part…PICTURES! Meet Winnie Page:ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Time flies …

… When you are having fun!

We are really enjoying our new home here in Virginia Beach. Jonathan is staying busy with church and life. I regret that I have not gotten pictures of his office to post yet. I assure you that it is quite lovely and decorated nicely (he decorated it by himself) and it even has his grandfather’s preaching license hung in a special corner! I WILL post pictures of his office and hopefully a sermon as well. I know that the family further away would like to hear a sermon and it isn’t always possible to make it to where we are to be able to hear one. However, if you are interested in learning more about our church, St. Andrew’s UMC, just click on our church name!

I, Kelly, have really been enjoying my new job as a sixth grade teacher. It is an all new adventure in every aspect for me. I left high school, a simple white board, and hand written IEPs to come to a whole new world. I now teach 6th grade students who have various learning disabilities. I co-teach for 4 periods and have 1 self-contained class. My classroom is majorly equipped with technology! I have my own SMARTboard, document camera, and of course projector.

My last school had a couple of SMARTboards and document cameras that were almost constantly checked out. There were several projectors, 1 for every department and then several extras that could be checked out as needed. So this has been a HUGE upgrade in technology for me. Along with all of that technology every room is equipped with a sound enhancement system. I simply slip on my “necklace”, which is really a microphone and I can use a normal speaking voice and EVERY student in the room can hear me equally and I get to keep my voice!

My favorite part thus far is the computerized IEPs.  Especially these days with the difficulty that I am having difficulty with my hands (more on that later), I appreciate that I am not having to write 20+ pages of an Individualized Education Plan.

Here are some pictures of my classroom. It is nothing special but it is mine! :)

SMARTboard

I LOVE my SMARTboard. I love SMARTexchange even more!

One white board.

This is the board that actually gets used during the day!

The 212

The 212 Club. This year our theme is 212 degrees. This corner encourages students to do some learning on their own. If they can answer them all before the school year is over I will provide them with a $10 gift certificate to the store of their choice!

The 212 club with all of the SOLs that we must cover. For all of my out of state friends and family, SOL means Standards of Learning. However, for many of our students it can also hold the meaning that I am sure you are more familiar with.

My desk and the time out chair. Knock on wood I have not had to use it so far this year.

The whole classroom!

Thanks for stopping by! Hopefully in our next post I will be able to include one of Jonathan’s sermons!

Blessings from the Page family!
